Required performance
classes:
Korevaar, Wednesday at 2:00 pm in C196 or Grusin Auditorium, as posted
on the door,
AND
Mondays at 2:00 pm : Weekly
Departmental Recitals, Grusin Auditorium.
Students wishing to perform
on Monday concerts must submit the request to me in advance. In
general,
repertoire to be presented on Monday programs should have already been
successfully performed in a Wednesday studio class.
Attendance is required and
expected at Monday and Wednesday classes!
Weekly lessons: as scheduled. Unexcused absences will not be made up. Excused absences will be made up as much as is possible. I will try to be as accommodating as is reasonably possible.
Attendance at faculty and other piano-related concerts is encouraged. Check the schedules of CU Concerts, Boulder Philharmonic, and Boulder Public Library for local events of interest. Attending your own professor's concerts is required; violators will be publicly excoriated.
Scale and arpeggio
requirements
for Freshman and Sophomore juries (all degree programs):
The faculty reserve the right
to ask for any (Sophomores, up to 3 sharps or flats for Freshmen) major
or minor scale (harmonic or melodic), to be performed four octaves, in
sixteenth notes, quarter note = 96-116. Not only accuracy,
but also quality of performance will be evaluated.
In addition, root position
arpeggios (Freshmen) and inversions (Sophomores) for all major and
minor
triads may be requested, to be performed four octaves, triplets.
Practice expectations:
University-level piano majors
should make their best effort to spend two or three hours
per
day at the piano. In the B. M. degree program, the minimum should
generally be three hours per day. Good practice habits and
consistent
application are critical to your progress! In addition, don't forget to
breathe the air and smell the flowers from time to time.
Grading:
Your grade will be determined
by a combination of factors, including attendance, attitude, practice
habits,
progress (relative) and achievement (absolute). Any grade higher than a
B reflects excellent work.
