Institute for Youth Leadership



The Institute for Youth Leadership provides quality programs for youth ages 15-17 to prepare them for coaching and officiating in children's amateur recreational sports. The Institute stresses positive role modeling, leadership and life long skills to youth participants as they prepare to become assistant coaches and officials in several sports including basketball, baseball/softball, football, and soccer. Participants also learn about the negative effects that drugs, alcohol, and violence have in sports.

Adult coaches trainings are also provided.

The Institute for Youth Leadership provides trainings, seminars and workshops emphasizing the following concepts:

Cooperative Teamwork Safety/Health Positive Self Esteem
Lifelong Skills Building Community Relations Responsibility/Sportsmanship
Skills Development Positive Role Modeling


The Institute for Youth Leadership includes an intensive 20 hour program providing youth, ages 15-17, opportunities to prepare themselves for recreational sports (assistant coaching or officiating) as well as the opportunity to give back to their communities in positive ways through leadership positions.

The Institute includes an on-the-job internship with evaluation and follow-up in local sports programs for children.

Evaluation within the Institute includes pre-post assessment and follow-up contact to determine progress and provide on-going support, as youth work as assistant coaches or officials in the sports of basketball, baseball/softball, football, and soccer. (Other sports are emphasized on request.)
